These are most likely the kind of guys who are only able to give phrases like "w00t, language is for n00bs, can I haz interwebs pls, lulz ".
Proper english can turn out to be quite an asset in future careers, especially in technological-orientated branches, as you are currently striving in, if I recall correctly.

Yes, you do.

I had also a lecture in English, but ich was a very simple English and further it was only technical english.
So it was easy for me to follow the lecture.

But here in ci, some people use words i never heard about or word i can´t remember.

But it is not so bad it sounds, after all exists a nice dictionary: http://dict.leo.org/

…en France

I attended english lectures at the college and other lecturesm which where given in english, too. According to the teacher my english is on C1-level (CEFR).
Personally, I do not think, that this is true. Particulary my wiritng skills are pretty crap

The same for me...I don't think my writing skills are crap, but "(very) good" is something different
And I often think too german.

Compared to the german grammar, the english grammar is very simple. Anyhow i make lot of mistakes in it. But the important thing is that you know the vocabulary.

The english language is estimated to have about 1 million different words. To give you a sense of how extraordinary huge that is: The whole size of the latin vocabulary seems to be no more than 45000.

However with the 2000 most frequent words and a good sense of grammar you could probably decipher just about any non scientific/technical text.

#38 Well... just read and/or listen to more native speakers. That and/or actually having conversations in english regularly will help a lot. I watch movies and read books in english as much and often as possible and still need about half a day in the country to think fast enough in english to have a real conversation and to understand the bloody accents.

english is very simply. Little Example ;

23

dreiundzwanzig
twentythree

or

Das Mädchen ging zum See. Es will dort schwimmen
The(FU gender) girl went to see. She wants to swim there. Hm "she" does anyone knows if girl is neutrum in english ?
xi-on|absolut

RANG God

#44 - 24.07 16:32

see as a noun is "Amtssitz eines Bischofs" (dic.leo.org)
sea is "Die See"
lake is "Der See"
"He/She went to sea" translates more or less to "ER/Sie ist zur See gefahren" (It's not exactly a common or fixed expression but conveys the same image)

"the girl" in reflection will get assigned a pronoun according to its natural gender.

"to be able to do something" does indeed sound far more distinguished, than just a profane "can do something".

Is it maybe to keep Earth from partizipating in any discussion by talking in italian? If that's so: nice idea, but this would definitely keep the next 98% of CI users out of the discussion as well

haha, you aren´t willing to whrite all things in english.

It is absurd to whrite all things in english only to lock out a certain user.
The certain user you want to lock out can also whrite in english. Indeed, he hasn´t a very good knowledge of vocabulary and grammr rules, but in the time of Internet an www he is also able to us online-dictionarys. So the user hasn´t a big cost of time to whrite all his post in english.

But this attitude fits anyhow to ci and his nerdy users.
